Inspired by the Russian fairytale of the shaman's drum, Noitarumpu ("the magic drum") the Finnish artist Aino-Maija Metsola's captures the fascination with this ancient Saami tradition. Noitarumpu simplifies the classic depictions of the mythical drum elaborately covered in shaman symbols to transport the ancient myth into modern print. Found throughout folkloric imagery in Scandinavia and other Arctic countries, the intriguing legend of the magic drum lives on in Metsola's bold yet intricate interpretation of this lovely bowl, which looks lovely with the Glogg Cup also by Marimekko.
