Forget about filters to purify your water - here comes the Kishu Binchotan (White Charcoal - about 90% pure carbon!) from Sort of Coal. It is Japanese wisdom in the hands of Danish designers. To activate your Kishu Binchotan, you have to boil it for 5 minutes, let it cool down, and then put it into your choice of decanter, or bottle. Then you can fill your container with tap water, and the Kishu Binchotan will purify it, getting rid of the chlorine while adding important minerals such as potassium and magnesium, making the water softer as well as tastier.
Your Kishu Binchotan will be active until it develops a greyish, dull surface, and afterwards you can crush it and add it to your garden or pots as it is a fabulous fertilizer.
Size: It comes in regular (1" x 7") or fine (0.7" x 7"). Mind you that in this case, size does not matter - they are both equally purifying. What matters is the size of your container.
White Charcoal is made from oak wood, but differs from regular wood in almost every way. The best quality branches are individually selected from slow growing, hard wood trees in the mountain forests of Japan and Korea. The forests are maintained by craftsmen who harvest from them in a very careful, delicate way, encouraging new branches to grow. These new branches absorb higher levels of CO2 than their predecessors, giving greater benefit to the environment and us.
